The first attempts to reunite the northern continent since The First Empire was undertaken by the warlord Eles Kahn, whose army made use of ancient machines they had found in ruins in what is today the kingdom of Kathara. Almost everybody who was able to muster together an army did so, which resulted in a long period in which everybody fought everybody: the armies of Eles Kahn against the dwarven armies of Kahrad-Dûnn; the Sorcerers of Narghai against the otherworldy armies of the Sidhe; and everybody against the demons from The Elemental Chaos.

The use of so many warmachines, often powered with pure chaos energy, began to make the world unstable and amorphous though. Chaos started leaking into The World, changing mountains into swamps, forests into lakes and melting whole cities. The leaders of the armies realised they were heading straight for an apocalypse and decided to make peace. In the city of Memnon a treatise was signed which led to The Hundred-Year Peace.
